The Secret to Combating Traffic in LA: Audiobooks

by Jason on 11/05/2009

in Business, Technology

audiobooksI hate traffic! I get so frustrated in LA traffic. I spend at least a total of 80 minutes a day in bumper to bumper, white knuckled, stress inducing traffic. In Boston I could drive from my apartment in Cambridge to my office in Lexington in under 21 minutes. Back in LA, I looked forward to NPR as my savior for the first few weeks, but even NPR can get boring when I read most of my news online and in real time. My new secret tool is audiobooks.  I just signed up with Audible.com. They offer a pretty good deal when you sign up for their monthly plan. The average audiobook is 600 minutes, or 10 hours. In the course of one month, I am in traffic for 1600 minutes. I am now able to knock out 2.5 books a month AND enjoy my drive to work. The book I am currently listening to is called Viral Loop by Adam L. Penenberg, referred to me by advisor Siamak Taghaddos, co-founder of Grasshopper.com. A part of me today was excited for the traffic on the freeway because I was getting hooked on the book’s content, “…how today’s smartest businesses ‘grow’ themselves…”  Right up my alley!

Good stuff Jason; have always been meaning to get into audio books, and this is just the reminder I needed.
