Dorm room delivery phenomenon

There is not one day that goes by where I don't order delivery to my dorm room. Living on campus at Babson Colleges has limited my food intake. It is either the make shift dining hall, mac and cheese, or delivery. Hundreds of Babson students like me order on a nightly basis. Even in a small town like Wellesley MA, where 95% of its residents are millionaires or are two years away from becoming one, there are still five pizza/sub dives, three Thai joints and two Chinese restaurants.

Over the course of two years I forged a loving relationship with the Lemon Thai Man (aka Joe the deliveryman/customer service rep/entrepreneur). I once asked him how much his monthly sales revenue was and he softly whispered over 30k-- simple arithmetic would tell you have this dive with an average of order size of $15-20, delivers 55 orders a day and reaches over $360,000 in yearly revenue -not a bad business at all. College students spend 70% of their disposable income on food/alcohol followed by entertainment and clothing. This is just one example of a successful restaurant in my town. As you favorite delivery next time he stops by how much their sales revenue and get back to me.

Cameron McKenzie, one of my Invenio Group partners, is trying to taking advantage of the college food delivery phenomenon by starting a company called DormDining. It lets hungry college students browse different restaurant menus and directly order from the same site. Restaurants love it because it automates the order process and better yet it lets them track who their frequent customers are.

To sum it up... there are many opportunities in the food industry but often overlooked is the family run delivery restaurant located around colleges. Without them thousands of students would be munching on the same cold brisket day after day. Thank you Lemon Thai Man.
