Can a company actually motivate its employees?

Sorry to have missed yesterdays post, I was NYC and to my dismay I had no internet access.

Back the question above... Yes, but it's harder than learning how to juggle ten razor blades with you eyes closed while standing on a volleyball which balancing on a golf ball on a waxed marble floor. While in Times Square yesterday to support at the entrepreneur of year dinner, I needed to have a couple documents printed. I figured good old Kinko’s would be the best choice -boy was I wrong it was actually bad new FedExKinkos. Employees were yelling at customers for asking to many questions. Paper was not loaded in half the printers I tried using. My sales associate decided to take a lunch break as he was ringing up my order. The list goes on...

I have been a loyal Kinko's customer ever since I was fifteen years old -in fact, Paul Orfalea, founder of Kinko's, is one of my favorite entrepreneurs. His newest book Copy This blends his challenging personal life with his no holds bar entrepreneurial passion. Paul strongly believes in sharing equity with everybody that takes part in his business. This concept worked at Kinko’s for years but as the company grew that ownership mentality slivered away -along with loads of other things like store layout independence and friendly associates. Analyst proclaimed that FedEx would save the day -still confused did they mean to say they would take to the grave?

Moral of the story is I think as a company grows it must run the COS (Creating or Selling) test. Everyone in the company must be creating something or selling something, if they aren’t doing either they’re just staff -oops I meant to say Team Players.
